Implementing an Integrated Literacy Block (K-7)

Recent innovative international and national system-wide initiatives designed to improve literacy teaching, and student literacy outcomes, have incorporated the design and implementation of an Integrated Literacy Block as a major classroom instructional strategy. The purpose of the Integrated Literacy Block is to ensure all students engage with all areas of literacy learning and teaching on a daily basis over an extended period of  uninterrupted time (ie, between one and a half  to two hours each day).
