Chapters – General Information
- Chapters are an integral part of the decision-making processes within WAPPA. The Board of Management will use Chapters to review and seek feedback on topical issues.
- As a membership driven organization WAPPA relies on members to channel issues and concerns through Chapters to the Board of Management. “District Issues” will be a regular agenda item at State Assemblies to ensure members’ issues are discussed.
- Chapters will be organized with consideration of DET Districts however chapter processes will be developed by the members of the chapter and will have an elected chairperson.
- Chapter information will be able to be viewed on the WAPPA website.
- Chapter issues and concerns will be tabled at monthly Board meetings for discussion and action.
- Three times per year, State Assemblies will be held and Chapter Chairs will be invited to attend and represent their chapters.
The Chapter Chairperson role is a:
- Disseminator of WAPPA information to members in his / her district
- Promptly dispatches or delivers reports
- Association issues / surveys
- Chapter newsletters
- Contribute to the association’s communications E.G. Chapter Roundups
- Positive influence for WAPPA in the district.
- Encourage administrators to join WAPPA
- To take and encourage others to take an active part in the Association’s operations
- To make regular contact with Chapter members
- To assist in membership drives as needed
- To support members collegially as required.
- Advises WAPPA Business Centre of any significant events (births / deaths / retirements / accidents / tragedies /serious illnesses / etc
- Assists in the induction of new principals in the district
- Mentors and is regarded as a “significant other” and may act as an advocate for other members.
- Conduit for members’ interests.
- Is aware of the association’s management structures and services so members can quickly be directed to the appropriate management committee member
- Organizes district visits for board of management members to visit and address members at district gatherings
- Provides feedback to WAPPA management board.
- Assists with the organization of Conference and Subsidy monies for members
- Assists Business Manager as required to ensures subsidy packages are distributed according to guidelines
- Ensures that AGM notices of motions and other agenda items are collected from and distributed to all members in accordance with the constitution of the association if required.
- Advocate for professional development in the district
- Reports to colleagues re. District PD activities
- Contributes to WAPPA’s publications on matters of significance from districts
