What constitutes effective classroom literacy assessment in the current educational
context is currently challenging classroom teachers and schools. Given the need to
continually integrate learning, teaching and assessment to ensure quality literacy
development and outcomes for all children, classroom teachers need to have in place
efficient and effective classroom literacy assessment practices and recording procedures.
The current emphasis on classroom teacher and school accountability requirements which
link with system wide measures such as AEDI and NAPLAN require schools to ensure
their literacy assessment policies, procedures and practices are aligned.
This workshop is designed for classroom teachers to: review their current literacy
assessment and recording practices in the light of the current Australian educational
context; examine current debates and initiatives in literacy assessment; explore and
develop effective classroom literacy assessment and recording activities; provide models
and examples of classroom and school literacy practices for managing literacy data and
continue to clarify and emphasize a diagnostic teaching approach which integrates literacy
learning, teaching and assessment. Click here for detailed overview.
