Kaya
I would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest WAPPA members:
Claire Adams, Cue PS
Jake Petterwood, Bruce Rock DHS
We look forward to providing you with the Support, Advocacy, Leadership Development and Connection for which WAPPA is renowned. Likewise, we welcome your voice to the ongoing discussion around primary education and school leadership, through the numerous avenues provided to our members.
Collegial Groups and Connection
Two strategic pillars within our new strategic plan are Connection and Leadership. One strategy in which we address these pillars, is through our Collegial Groups. Currently we have members looking to join groups, as they continually hear about the benefits of regular meetings, establishing your own agendas and protocols and supporting each other through ongoing communications and sharing of resources and information.
If your group has vacancies for either a Deputy Principal or Principal, please contact Phillippa Berkhout, Manager Services at WAPPA at Phillippa will send you their details so you can run your process.
Thanks, in anticipation.
Strategic Plan 2022-2024 - Strengthening our support
Yesterday members received WAPPA's 2022-2024 Strategic Plan - Strengthening our support. This plan sets our intentions for the next three years, and we look forward to initiating and embedding some of the new strategies as we enter Semester Two.
A copy of the plan can be found here.
Manager Member Support - vacancy
In order to help fulfil the strategies within the strategic plan, WAPPA is currently on the look out for a Manager, Member Services. In this role, you will support members directly by triaging incoming calls and emails, as well as working with various WAPPA member groups such as WAPPA7s, Aspirants, Mentors, Chapters, Alumni and Collegial Groups. Through our advocacy pillar, the MMS will collate information from members and conduct vital research to help draft and develop WAPPA position papers on our most crucial matters.
This role has existed previously at WAPPA in various contexts, such as a focus on wellbeing and PL. We are now moving to ensure the MMS role will focus purely on Support and Advocacy, which will encompass all matters to do with workload and wellbeing. If this role sounds exciting to you, please follow the link here and give us a call.
WAPPA Advocacy
Thank you to members who continue to make contact with us to share your concerns on various matters impacting school leaders. Following State Assembly and the distribution of our State Assembly Report, we have noted a growing number of concerns regarding student complexity, resourcing and impact on students and staff. I have continued to raise these matters at a Ministerial and Department level and we intend to prioritise these issues in our upcoming advocacy work, through the WAPPA Board and Business Centre.
Meetings I have recently attended, to advocate for members' needs include:
- Teach for Australia - Future Leaders' Program update, focusing on regional leadership development
- Standing meeting with Minister Ellery
- Standing meeting with DG, Lisa Rodgers
- SCSA meeting to provide feedback into the change of NAPLAN timing
- Multiple school visits regarding member support on a range of matters
- Collegial Group presentations x 4, addressing specific concerns and providing WAPPA updates
2022 OSHClub WAPPA Conference Update
In recent weeks, board member Gary Crocetta and I have attended a number of schools to view their student performance auditions for conference. We believe we have selected some great performances, intended to start and finish our conference on the right notes. Thank you to all schools who have submitted an expression of interest.
Having listened to members' ideas and initiatives, we recently acted on the suggestion of chapters being able to reserve tables at conference, in order to help build connection within chapters. Since advertising this initiative to Chapter Chairs, at least one chapter has taken up the invite. If you would like tables reserved for your chapter for a specific keynote session during conference, please email advising which session and approximately how many seats you require. We will do the rest. (don't worry, we won't be putting you front and centre, though we will give you premium viewing positions).
In coming weeks we will finalise our Concurrent Presentations and advise all delegates.
