Advocacy & Support

Since my last update, I have done a significant amount of travel to attend meetings with members in regional areas including Bunbury and Geraldton (Midwest Leaders' Briefing), as well as the metropolitan and Perth Hills areas. I have also recently attended the quarterly AGPPA and APPA meetings.

At the national level, all associations were perturbed by the lack of primary representation at the Federal Education Minister's recent, Teacher Supply Summit.  Following input from members and the Board, WAPPA submitted a detailed paper to our own Minister for Education, prior to the Summit.

AGPPA also released a statement regarding the Summit and that statement can be read here.  A pleasing outcome for the work being undertaken at AGPPA and APPA, is that before the end of the meetings, the Federal Education Minster's Office had advised National Council that, moving forward, we would have representation on a National Working Party.  I look forward to providing updated information on this topic, as it progresses.

Other advocacy meetings have included

  • Standing meeting with Director General
  • Consultation into Student Behaviour Policy and Procedures
  • Consultation into First Aid Resources, to support the Health Care Policy and Procedures
  • Consultation into the Department's Reconciliation Statement
  • Representation at ECU Open Day and expert panel for Education students
  • Advisory Group consultation with Telethon Kids institute, OASIS Project

OSHClub 2022 WAPPA Conference

The time has finally arrived, when many of our WAPPA members will gather at Crown next Wednesday to Friday, for three days of world class professional learning and much needed connection with colleagues and peers.  I have been eagerly awaiting this year's conference and gala dinner and certainly have a much greater appreciation of the organisation requirements, having witnessed the inner workings of the Business Centre over the last three terms.  Rumour has it there is a wide ranging interpretation on the gala dinner theme, Winter Wonderland, and we can't wait to see the outfits you all have in store for the occasion.

You should have received an email in the last few days reminding you of everything you need to know for conference and you will also receive an email advising you how to download and use the newest version of our Conference App. I would encourage you to use the app, in order to maximise your experience with conference events, delegates, exhibitors and speakers.

Collegiate Principal Pool

The Department of Education has recently called for Expressions of Interest for a new Collegiate Principal Pool.  This initiative has been highly valued by our members, as being a great support for school leaders across the state.  If you are interested in this system level leadership position, please follow the attached link here.

Partner Spotlight - Fleet Network

WAPPA and Fleet Network: Industry Partners for more than 3 years

There is exciting growth happening in the electric vehicle market in Australia, and Fleet Network are at the forefront of the movement towards low emissions cars. The Australian Government has introduced legislation to make non-luxury electric, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles exempt from the Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) and customs duty. This means you can consider an electric car through novated leasing, saving thousands in tax and $0 on GST on your car’s purchase price or all running costs. The FBT exemption applies to electric, plug-in hybrid, and hydrogen models under the luxury car threshold ($84,916 for 2022-23).

Save on taxes and time

You’ll enjoy the benefit of bundling all your running costs – power, rego, servicing, tyres, and more – in your repayment.
